Counselling Adults

When a person starts counselling they may have little or no idea what to expect, perhaps they have never experienced another person sitting and listening to them with complete attention. People seek counselling when they are experiencing life difficulties i.e. issues with relationships, separation and loss, anger, anxiety, depression or not being able to understand why they feel the way they do. Counselling can offer a safe, supportive, non-judgemental environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and possible underlying causes to your difficulties and begin to find more effective ways of taking control of your life.

An initial meeting with a counsellor can be helpful in giving you the opportunity to think about whether they are going to be someone who you feel you can develop a rapport with. I believe that the quality of the relationship between client and counsellor is fundamental to the success of therapy, it is therefore really important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor as this will help you to gain understanding and insight from your counselling sessions.
